Niederauer’s gig at the recording studio and venue opened decades ago by the late Levon Helm comes as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been relaxing restrictions on public gatherings that were put in place because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The live music industry was shuttered for just about a year when Cuomo on March 3 announced that event, arts and entertainment venues could reopen at 33 percent capacity, with up to 100 people indoors, beginning April 2.
One of the last pre-pandemic shows that anyone attended was on March 6, 2020, when Tanya Tucker and her band delivered a blockbuster night at Levon Helm Studios. Less than a week later, lockdown strangled us all, crippling the live music industry in the process.
But the subject line of an email from Levon Helm Studios, that announced the Niederauer show, said it all: “WE’RE BACK.” Inspired as an 8-year-old by the movie “School of Rock,” Niederaurer took up the guitar and two years later made his national television debut on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Two years after that, he was performing on Broadway in “School of Rock: The Musical.”
Now 18, Niederauer has shared stages with multiple members of the Allman Brothers Band, Lady Gaga, Gary Clark Jr. and the Tedeschi Trucks Band, among many other notable names. Click here to learn more about Taz.
